I've previously read the three Logan/Clay books and wasn't completely thrilled (for various reasons) but The Detective's Pleasure hit it out of the park for me. I loved every last bit of it. FINALLY, Christa has created a Dom who is truly a Dom in every sense of the word, IMO. Detective Sam is caring, patient, smart, skilled and honestly interested in guiding sub Ryan to fully embrace his, and desperately needed, true submission. Aspiring SWAT team member Ryan, who has played previously with Logan has been severely disappointed, and what I perceived as misused (especially by Logan), in his past encounters w/Doms is a totally hard nut to crack and is initially reluctant to embrace true submission. Ryan is also tired of being emotionally hurt and therefore is unwilling to truly open himself sabotaging himself. Deep down he just wants to belong to a Dom, he wants a Dom's collar and wants to serve in all ways but is incapable of doing so. At times Ryan is his own worst enemy. While Sam starts out merely trying to help Ryan heal and find himself Sam grows to have feelings for Ryan and both men have guards up for obvious reasons. I loved the emotional aspects of their relationship and I found each of their encounters satisfying, even the vanilla scenes. Sam is firm in his guidance and loving in his attention but willing to wait for his desired sub, Ryan, to realize what it is he needs and how to attain it, with Sam's help. I simply adored Sam & Ryan together even though there were difficult stops & starts emotionally. Ryan's journey to complete submission was an arduous road travelled and extremely hard won but when it finally happens it was a glorious thing to watch. Absolutely beautiful! It was so beautiful it made me misty-eyed. The way that Ryan finally embraced his submission and Sam's reaction was gorgeous. This book was deeply, deeply satisfying to read and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Christa, if you read these reviews I would love to read more (anything and everything - trivial and complex!) about Sam & Ryan and their life together. Several books more please!! I have already re-read this book at least twice since making my purchase and know I will be doing so again in the future. Thank you.
